Mercury Piazza, St. Julians

Team Composition

– Each team shall consist of a maximum of 4 players: 3 players on the court and 1 substitute.

Points System

– There can either be a Win or a Loss. No match can end in a draw.

– Wins are counted for standings and if teams end up with same number of wins/losses ratio, then the accumulated points difference from all group matches prevails.

Game Duration and Scoring

– The game duration is 10 minutes running time or until a team scores 11 points (Note: this is different to the Official FIBA 3×3 Rules however this rule had to be modified due to time constraints and the fact that there is only 1 court available)

– Scoring system:

  – Field goals inside the arc: 1 point.

  – Field goals behind the arc: 2 points.

  – Successful free throws: 1 point each.

Possession and Ball Handling

– A check-ball at the top of the arc shall start the game. The ball is at the disposal of the offensive player after the check-ball has been completed.

– After a successful last free throw, the next offensive team gains possession of the ball.

– After an unsuccessful last free throw, the ball remains live and in play once it touches or is touched by any player on the court.

First Possession

– A coin flip shall determine which team gets the first possession. The winning team can choose to start with the ball at the beginning of the game or at the beginning of a potential overtime.

Fouls and Penalties

– A team enters a penalty situation after committing 6 fouls.

– Players are not excluded based on the number of personal fouls.

– Free throws for fouls:

  – If a shot is successful and fouled, the basket counts and the player is awarded 1 free throw. From the 7th team foul onward, 2 free throws are awarded.

  – If a shot from inside the arc is unsuccessful, 1 free throw is awarded. From the 7th team foul onward, 2 free throws are awarded.

  – If a shot from behind the arc is unsuccessful, 2 free throws are awarded.
